Great news: Study finds exercise helps you live longer and staves off wrinkles!
Exercising for just 30 minutes a day could help you live an extra 10 years, according to a study. American experts who carried out the research found that women who regularly worked out could slow down the rate at which their cells aged. What’s more, the study points to the fact you CAN prolong the onset of wrinkles and grey hair, as damaged cells are what cause the signs of ageing. This is clearly very welcome news indeed!
The author of the report, exercise science professor Larry Tucker said: “Just because you’re 40, doesn’t mean you’re 40 years old biologically. We all know people that seem younger than their actual age. The more physically active we are, the less biological aging takes place in our bodies.”
He explained that people who trained regularly compared with people who didn’t exercise had much longer ‘telomeres’, the protective tips to our DNA that shorten with age. So, the longer your telomeres, the more you can protect your DNA from being attacked by disease.
“We know that regular physical activity helps to reduce mortality and prolong life, and now we know part of that advantage may be due to the preservation of telomeres,” he said.
