The seasons are changing and there are definitely signs of Spring. Winter tends to be a time of hibernation and indulgence in comfort food. It’s the ideal time to reset our bodies and maximise our health…
Here are 10 steps to Detoxing:
Ditch processed fast foods – enjoy wholesome, natural home-cooked meals.
Give your fridge a healthy makeover. Fill it with fresh fruits and vegetables. Think seasonal and local – the fresher, the better for your body.
Add garlic, ginger and cayenne pepper to your meals. They are great detoxifiers.
Enjoy big hearty salads. Make a simple, tasty “detox dressing” with olive oil, apple cider vinegar, lemon juice, garlic and some chopped fresh herbs.
Eat omega-3-rich foods such as avocado and oily fish. They lower bad cholesterol, improve blood circulation and are very good mood boosters as well.
Start the day with freshly squeezed lemon juice in warm water, and drinking lots of liquids such as purified water, herbal teas, and home-made ice teas
Include some nutritious smoothies and hearty soups into your diet.
Take time to rest and recover. Go to bed early, preferably by 10. Ditch yourself from technology whenever possible. Rather take a warm shower or bath, read a good book, or find your own way of meditating. Try journal writing, art, gardening etc. and spend time outdoors. The point is to spend more time doing the things you enjoy that relax you. (just not alcohol and late nights)
Exercise. Walking, swimming, pilates, yoga.
Repeat the detox with each change of season.Change of seasons is usually the time of infections, and a detox can strengthen your immune system.
