What does WELLNESS mean to you?
Wellness – noun – the quality or state of being healthy in body and mind, especially as the result of deliberate effort.
Once upon a time, health was commonly defined as merely the absence of disease. However, this doesn’t account for other factors that also affect our health in an indirect, unquantifiable way, such as sleep quality, stress, diet and emotional well-being.
Our bodies are constantly communicating to us, but are we listening? We generally only visit the doctor when we are sick. Rarely do people go for a general check-up. If we at least listen to our bodies and pay attentional to “signs” that our body needs some TLC or a “service”, we can be happier and healthier.
These signs could include:
Irregular bowel movement, indigestion, bloating, dry skin, dull hair, low energy, mood swings, sleep quality, cravings…
This is your body’s way of communicating to you that you need to make some changes.
Start the new year with some self-reflection and self-assessment. You need to be honest with yourself if you want to be a happier and healthier you.
Our lifestyle (dietary and otherwise) impacts on our health. We may be stressed, anxious, depressed, sleep deprived, making unhealthy dietary choices, getting insufficient physical activity…
Don’t wait for things to get better before you embark on some healthy lifestyle habits. Start now!
